Spring Lake Boys Cross Country Wins Regional Championship, Qualifies for State Finals The Spring Lake boys cross country team captured the Division 2 regional championship with a balanced and determined effort, scoring 86 points to edge out Cedar Springs (95) and Petoskey (109) for the top spot. The victory sends the Lakers to the MHSAA State Finals next weekend with strong momentum. Junior Owen Adams led the charge for Spring Lake, finishing third overall in 15:51.9, a new personal record. Senior Lukus Mendoza followed in 10th place with a personal-best time of 16:11.1, and freshman Dane Trask made a big statement in his regional debut, placing 16th in 16:22.1 (PR). Juniors Ryder Woodwyk (30th, 16:54.2, PR) and Isaac Vandlen (31st, 16:55.2, PR) sealed the win for the Lakers with back-to-back finishes to close out the scoring five. Seniors Levi Vanderlaan (52nd, 17:34.1, PR) and sophomore Liam Tiles (71st, 18:03.9) rounded out the lineup as every Spring Lake runner earned a qualifying spot for the state meet. Spring Lake’s team-first depth proved critical, as the Lakers placed all five scoring runners in the top 31 overall. The program’s continued tradition of pack running and steady improvement was on full display, highlighted by six personal records on the day. The Lakers will now turn their focus to the MHSAA Division 2 State Finals, where they’ll compete against Michigan’s best at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.
