Spring Lake Varsity Lakers Fall To Fruitport Varsity Trojans Despite Strong Effort From Abby Lau By GameChanger Media Abby Lau collected three hits in three at bats, but Spring Lake Varsity Lakers lost to Fruitport Varsity Trojans 17-4 on Thursday. Lau singled in the fourth inning, doubled in the seventh inning, and singled in the first inning. Fruitport Varsity Trojans got on the board in the top of the first inning after Brooklyn Russell homered to left field, Brylee Dewitt singled to left field, Kya Tawney singled to left field, and Kendall Lee grounded out, each scoring one run. Fruitport Varsity Trojans added to their early lead in the top of the second inning when Madyson Prout singled, scoring two runs, and Tawney hit a solo home run to left field. Fruitport Varsity Trojans scored five runs on four hits in the top of the seventh inning. Prout singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Kalli Tawney doubled, scoring one run, Ava Twa induced Khloe Courtade to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, and Kendall Prout hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. Russell earned the win for Fruitport Varsity Trojans. The right-handed pitcher gave up six hits and four runs (three earned) over seven innings, striking out nine and walking four. Twa took the loss for Spring Lake Varsity Lakers. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing 17 runs (10 earned) on 16 hits, striking out seven and walking two. Raelyn Stratton provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Spring Lake Varsity Lakers with two runs batted in. The second baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. Lau stole three bases.
