Varsity vs EAST GRAND RAPIDS HIGH SCHOOL (8 - 14) Loss In a battle of state ranked teams the #1 ranked East Grand Rapids Pioneers came out on top of the #4 ranked Lakers of Spring Lake by a score of 14-8 on Wednesday. The Lakers started out slow and the Pioneers capitalized on many unforced errors by Spring Lake to take a commanding lead, only to see the Lakers make a late run and close the gap. Leading the Lakers in goals was Micah Gawronski with 4, while Claire Arnold added 2 more. Sophia Clark and Aubrey Llewellyn each also had a goal. Stafford Sieracki led the Lakers in assists with 2. Defensively the Lakers were led by 2 way middie Bethany Zimmerman and defenders Riley Johnson and Emily Riemersma. Attack Casey Ireland also was all over the field helping with offensive and defensive transition. Next up for the Lakers is a road contest against defending state champions Grand Rapids Catholic Central on Thursday evening.
